Perú Fusión Teatro in Yungay

Last week we were thrilled to welcome Lucho Ramírez, actor and director of Perú Fusión Teatro, back to his hometown of Yungay. While collaborating on Caminatas e insomnios (Wandering and Sleeplessness) we had discussed the possibility of staging a production in Yungay to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1970 landslide that destroyed his birthplace, but unfortunately our plans were derailed by the pandemic. This was his first visit to Yungay in five years.

During his stay, Lucho staged performances of Los tambores (The Drums) by German playwright Reiner Zimnik to students at Santo Domingo Primary and Secondary schools. He also had the opportunity to visit the site of his childhood home which was destroyed by the landslide. We hope that on his next visit he will bring Wandering and Sleeplessness to older audiences in Yungay, including some of his childhood friends and survivors of the landslide.
