Guinea Pig Adventures is a short, fictional film written by, and starring, students from Yanamito Primary School. Celebrating local folklore and regional talent, it tells the story of Yulianita, a guinea pig who loves to paint pictures of Mount Huascarán. One day, as she prepares for an exhibition, her paintings are stolen by a sneaky thief. The village must come together to solve the crime and find the paintings before it’s too late.
Guinea Pig Adventures represents the continuation of a longstanding collaboration with Yanamito Primary in the highlands of Yungay province. The film is a community-led sequel, of sorts, to The End of the World, written by a Lima-based director that featured a young actor from Yanamito. In 2026, it screened as part of annual commemorations to remember the earthquake of 1970 and mark the reconstruction of Yungay in 1971 by celebrating regional culture. You can watch it here.
