Ysgol Rhyd Y Grug Primary was set up as a temporary school for the survivors of the Aberfan disaster in 1966 and students from surrounding areas. Eventually the English medium primary would move to Ynysowen, which was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 2012. The Welsh medium primary would be permanently located at this temporary site.
In November 2023 we organised a series of workshops with the Ysgol Rhyd Y Grug in Aberfan. We developed three workshops reflecting on the disaster and creating spaces for language exchange. For our third workshop we invited the children to learn and say some words, and create some sentences in Spanish, Quechua and Welsh.
