The End of the World is a fictional short made in 2024 with Shiwa Films. Alone in his twilight years, Epifanio embarks on a journey to find his family. But time is running out. Nearby, the mountain begins to rumble.

Building on the research findings of Moving Mountains, The End of the World dramatizes the history of the Yungay landslide, which caused around 8000 deaths and left around 400 survivors. It was produced with representatives of the Yungay community. Some of our aims in making the film were to facilitate skills-acquisition in research, communication, and filmmaking among young people in Peru; to foster a dynamic, youth-facing educational programme that preserves memories of the 1970 landslide; and to promote intergenerational knowledge exchange and solidarity throughout Yungay province.

I would even say that I’ve healed, psychologically, through writing. Writing is catharsis. When I’m in pain, I write and write and write.
