Take 2!
Following from our success with The End of the World, Moving Mountains returned to Yungay province in spring 2026 to work with the students of Yanamito Primary. This time, is was their turn to write and direct a short film. They chose to work with a collection of stories about guinea pigs that students of the school had written and published a few years before. Set in the highland village of Yanamito, and featuring guinea pigs as symbols of regional pride, Guinea Pig Adventures explore all facets of life and folklore in highland Peru.

With their teachers, the children decided that they wanted to recreate the story of Yulianita the painter, a guinea pig whose precious artworks are stolen the night before an important exhibition. At school, everyone got to work in writing the script and learning their words. Meanwhile, we comissioned a local artist to produce Yulianita’s mountain landscapes.

Soon, rehearsals were underway and the children were excited to star in their film. Local filmmaker, Nikolai, took charge of recording and editing. The results will be screened to the community as part of annual disaster commemorations.
