A year to the day after we began filming in Yungay, we hosted a community screening of El fin del mundo. The event formed part of the official municipal programme to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the landslide. It attracted a large crowd from the town of Yungay and from villages across the province, eager to see regional landscapes and their loved ones on screen.

At the screening, we heard from all the actors who feature in the film, including its youngest protagonists: Naida Chiquian, Hugo Dolores, and André Garey. They gave moving testimonies about their roles in the film and how much it meant to them to be part of the production. Juana Jiménez and Jorge Flores reflected on their experiences as survivors. They talked about provincial pride and of the resilience of the yungaínos who lost everything and were called to begin their lives from scratch.

We were delighed to be able to host an open-air screening in the main square that was free and open to all, with help from Tinkuy Cultural Collective. The Plaza de Armas in Yungay is a place of much symbolic importance and was one of the first sites to be rebuilt after the disaster. It was especially meaningful to see El fin del mundo projected against this backdrop.

On behalf of Moving Mountains, Daniel Rocco Contreras accepted a symbol of recongition from the Municipal Goverment of the Province of Yungay.

The community event in Yungay was the second screening of what we hope will be many more to come. In 2025, the film was selected at the Shanghai Film Festival and the Festival Internacional de Cine de Huesca.
